Creation Care

We believe that God created and loves the universe with its order, complexity and beauty and gives humans the gift and responsibility to serve as stewards or caregivers and protectors of His creation. We provide and engage in opportunities for the ministry of earth stewardship/creation care through worship, learning and teaching opportunities and through activities in our church and community.

The Creation Care Committee meets at least quarterly to plan activities and have fellowship with those in our church and community with an interest in the environment and the stewardship of God’s creation.  All in the congregation are invited to participate and get involved.  There are usually 15-20 participants of varying ages that come together to decide how best to use our time and talents for this purpose.  We meet on scheduled Sundays at 12 noon in Williams Hall immediately after church with lunch provided. Meetings are announced in the church newsletter (The Informer) and in the church bulletin.  In addition, information is shared by email.  All are invited to participate.

Recurring events or projects:

  • Creation Care Sunday each year in April on the Sunday nearest to International Earth Day.
  • Seminars and workshops on topics related to the environment and earth stewardship.
  • Aluminum can recycling program on the church campus.  This lessens the impact on the landfill and decreases the need for aluminum mining as well as providing funds for Creation Care programs.
  • Annual Movie Night, showing films on the environment and encouraging discussions about what we can do to make a difference.
  • Programs and events for our youth and children concerning caring for God’s creation.
  • Provides a weekly Creation Care column for our church newsletter.
  • Participate in annual Millington City Cleanup Day, E-cycling/Recycling Day and Millington City Beautiful Tree Planting event.
